Layens Horizontal Hives

Our horizontal hives are constructed with 1-1/2" interior wood framing and sheathed with 3/8" plywood, sanded on one side for a smooth finish. Walls and floor are double-sided and filled with 1-1/2" of sheep wool insulation to help keep the hive warm in winter and cool in summer. Interior surfaces are waxed; exteriors are left unpainted so you can finish them with a water-based latex paint of your choice. The roof is pitched and vented, topped with white-painted steel, and hinged at the front to allow the top to be lifted from the rear. Each hive includes 20 Layens frames, 3 round doors and a set of V-legs.
