Who we are
As a Christian family, we believe that embracing healthy eating and practicing responsible beekeeping are vital components of a fulfilling lifestyle. In line with our values, we have chosen to utilize the innovative horizontal Layens hives, which stand in contrast to the more commonly seen American Langstroth boxes.
We recommend beekeepers in Virginia who use sustainable practices, as this choice not only promotes a healthier environment for the bees but also allows us to foster a happier coexistence with them.
Our Layens hives are insulated with natural sheep’s wool, a breathable material that helps regulate temperature year-round—keeping colonies warmer in winter and cooler in summer. This insulation supports brood development and reduces stress on the bees, contributing to healthier, more productive hives.
The honey we offer is raw, unfiltered, and free from pesticide contamination. Consuming local, minimally processed honey preserves its natural enzymes, pollen, and beneficial compounds. Many customers also report reduced seasonal allergy symptoms after regular use, since local honey can contain trace amounts of local pollens that may help build tolerance over time.
At Six Bees of Virginia, our practices prioritize bee health, natural materials, and the pure, local quality of the honey we produce.
Layens hives differ from traditional beekeeping methods, providing a much easier and gentle beekeeping experience. It's time to say goodbye to the heavy lifting associated with cumbersome boxes! Our lightweight frames enable us to work smarter rather than harder, resulting in a less disruptive and more peaceful atmosphere for our bee colonies.
We harvest only the excess honey frames each season, and our honey comes exclusively from our local apiaries, each marked with the location and date of harvest on every bottle. This approach not only supports sustainable practices but also emphasizes the importance of bee health for a thriving ecosystem.
Six Bees is happy to provide beekeeping advice and mentoring for new Layens horizontal hive beekeepers.
Given the demand, we can provide beekeeping workshops and classes available in Gainesville, Virginia.
