Our nucleus (NUC) boxes are built with 3/8" plywood sides & top, with 3/4" pine boards for the ends and bottom and painted for weather protection. Each box includes one round bee door and a 2" round vent in the back. The lids feature a hardwood handle and are secured with a nylon ratchet strap for safe transport.
Inside each NUC are 3-Layens wired frames containing a mix of wax foundation and natural comb, capped honey, capped brood, and bee bread. Each NUC is stocked with approximately 3,000 bees and a first-year mated queen sourced from our active hives in Northern Virginia. Availability is mid-spring and limited orders are filled on a first-come basis.
There is a $100 refund for all returned NUC boxes less frames (undamaged).
